Butterbur
别名: Petasites hybridus
Butterbur is a herb whose root extract has been studied mainly for migraine prevention and hay fever. The raw plant contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids that damage the liver, so only extracts with these compounds removed should be used.

- migraine prevention – older studies were encouraging, but it is no longer recommended in neurology guidelines because of liver concerns
- hay fever – weak to moderate evidence for specific leaf extracts

Do not exceed the label dose. Cases of liver injury have been reported; if you notice jaundice, dark urine or pain under the right ribs, stop and see a doctor.
