Goldenseal

别名: Hydrastis canadensis

Goldenseal is a North American herb whose root contains the alkaloids berberine and hydrastine. It is often combined with echinacea for colds, but human benefit is not convincingly shown and the herb strongly affects how medicines are broken down.

Enough sleep and fluids during a cold; possibly zinc or vitamin C.

不宜同服 / 需错开

Do not combine with medicines without asking your doctor – goldenseal inhibits liver enzymes (CYP3A4, CYP2D6) and can raise levels of many medicines. Do not combine with berberine.

Do not use during pregnancy, breastfeeding or in children (berberine can worsen jaundice in newborns). With high blood pressure, heart, liver or kidney disease, or if you take any medicines, consult your doctor.

Do not exceed the label dose or use long term; high doses may cause digestive upset and irritation.

Beware of name mix-ups: Slovak 'zlatobyľ' is a different plant (goldenrod, Solidago). Goldenseal is a protected species – choose products from cultivated sources.
