B complex

Auch bekannt als: B vitamin complex

A B complex contains all or most B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, biotin, folate, B12) in one tablet. It suits restricted or plant-based diets and periods of higher demand, but quality depends heavily on the forms and doses on the label.

Wofür es verwendet wird

  • Normal energy metabolism, nervous system and reduced tiredness – strong evidence for the individual vitamins (EFSA)
  • Lowering homocysteine (via B6, folate and B12) – moderate evidence
  • Less stress and better mood in healthy people – weak evidence

Formen und Unterschiede

standard B complex (100 % NRV)

doses around recommended intake – suitable for long-term use

forte or high-dose

doses well above needs; watch B6 and niacin in particular

with active forms (methylfolate, methylcobalamin, P5P)

more expensive, advantages for most people are not clearly shown

effervescent and chewable tablets, children's versions

convenient, but check sugar, sweeteners and age-appropriate dosing; PABA is not a vitamin

Wann einnehmen

In the morning or at lunch with food – in some people evening use may disturb sleep.

Passt gut zu

Magnesium, vitamin C.

Nicht kombinieren / trennen

Do not combine with other products containing B6, niacin or biotin to avoid exceeding limits.

Worauf achten

High-dose biotin in a B complex can distort lab tests – tell your doctor before a blood test. If you take medicines (e.g. for epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, methotrexate) or are pregnant, consult your doctor.

Sicherheit

Respect EFSA limits especially for vitamin B6 (12 mg/day), folic acid (1000 µg/day) and nicotinic acid (10 mg/day); otherwise do not exceed the label dose.

Praxistipp

For long-term use choose a B complex with doses close to 100 % NRV – higher doses are not automatically better.
