Burdock (root)

Also known as: Arctium lappa

Burdock root is a traditional herb and, in Asia, a vegetable rich in inulin and polyphenols. It is used in folk medicine for 'blood cleansing' and problem skin, but good human studies are very limited.

What it is used for

  • skin support (acne, eczema) – weak evidence, mainly traditional use
  • digestive support thanks to inulin – weak evidence
  • antioxidant effect – evidence mostly from the lab

A varied, fibre-rich diet and enough fluids.

Do not combine / separate

Practical tip

Buy from reputable sources – burdock root has been confused with poisonous deadly nightshade in the past.
