Barley grass is the dried young shoots of barley harvested before the grain forms, sold as powder, juice powder or tablets. It contains chlorophyll, fibre, some vitamins and polyphenols, but the amount per serving is small.

What it is used for

  • adding a green component to the diet – weak evidence, food benefit
  • digestive support from fibre – weak evidence
  • antioxidant compounds – evidence mainly from the lab
