Indole-3-carbinol

Also known as: I3C, broccoli extract

Indole-3-carbinol is formed from glucosinolates in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cabbage and is converted in the stomach into DIM and other compounds. It is studied for its effect on estrogen metabolism in the liver.

What it is used for

  • Support of estrogen metabolism – weak evidence, mainly laboratory and small studies
  • Protective effects of cruciferous vegetables – evidence concerns diet, not the supplement
