Herbal cleanse (blend)

Autres noms: detox blend, cleanse tea, colon cleanse

Herbal cleanse products are blends of herbs sold to "detox" the body, often containing laxative (senna, buckthorn, aloe) or diuretic ingredients. The body cleans itself through the liver and kidneys, and there is no evidence that these blends improve that process.

À quoi il sert

  • Detoxification – no evidence
  • Short-term relief of constipation (if senna is included) – moderate evidence for senna itself, not for the blend
  • Weight loss – no evidence, only loss of water and bowel contents

Les formes et leurs différences

laxative blends (senna, buckthorn, aloe)

work by stimulating the bowel, not for long-term use

diuretic blends (dandelion, horsetail, birch)

increase urination; water loss is not fat loss

liver blends (milk thistle, artichoke)

mild digestive support, quality depends on the label

Quand le prendre

If at all, only short term as per the label; laxative blends usually in the evening.

Se combine bien avec

Plenty of water and fibre, sleep and less alcohol – that is the real support for the liver.

Ne pas associer / espacer

Do not combine with other laxatives or diuretics; take medicines apart, because faster bowel transit may reduce their effect.

Points d’attention

Not suitable in pregnancy, while breastfeeding, for children, with inflammatory bowel disease, kidney or liver disease. If you take medicines (especially for the heart, diuretics or anticoagulants), consult your doctor.

Sécurité

Do not exceed the label dose. Long-term use of laxative herbs can disturb minerals (potassium) and bowel function.

Conseil pratique

Spend the money on fibre, vegetables and water instead; if constipation lasts longer, see a doctor.
