Irish moss is a red seaweed from which carrageenan is obtained and which contains iodine and minerals. It is popular on social media as a "superfood", but clinical studies in humans are lacking.

With food.
A diet with iodised salt and fish as a more stable source of iodine.
Do not combine with other iodine supplements (kelp, multivitamins) without adding up the total.
With thyroid disease or thyroid hormone treatment avoid it unless your doctor agrees. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, with kidney or liver disease, or when taking medicines, consult your doctor.
The EFSA tolerable upper level for iodine is 600 µg a day from all sources; iodine content in seaweed varies greatly. Do not exceed the label dose.
If you need iodine, iodised salt or a supplement with an exact stated dose is more reliable.
Strong = several good human studies or official recommendations; moderate = promising but smaller studies; weak = few studies or mixed results; no evidence = claims not confirmed.
