Fo-ti

Auch bekannt als: Polygonum multiflorum, he shou wu

Fo-ti is the root of Polygonum multiflorum, used in traditional Chinese medicine for "rejuvenation" and against greying hair. Reliable evidence is lacking and there are repeated reports of liver injury.

Wofür es verwendet wird

  • slowing greying and supporting hair growth – no reliable evidence
  • longevity and vitality – no human evidence

Formen und Unterschiede

processed root

traditionally prepared root; processing does not rule out liver risk

raw root and extracts

laxative effect, risk of liver injury

Wann einnehmen

If you take it anyway, only short term with food and as the label says.

Passt gut zu

For hair, rather proven steps: check iron, thyroid, B12 and vitamin D.

Nicht kombinieren / trennen

Do not combine with other liver-burdening substances (alcohol, high-dose paracetamol, other herbal extracts) or with blood thinners and diabetes medicines.

Worauf achten

Not suitable in pregnancy, breastfeeding, with liver disease or for children. If you take medicines, consult your doctor; seek medical help for jaundice, dark urine or nausea.

Sicherheit

Liver injury has been reported even at usual doses; do not exceed the label dose.

Praxistipp

With this supplement the risk probably outweighs the benefit – consider whether you really need it.
