Damiana

Also known as: Turnera diffusa

Damiana is a Mexican shrub whose leaves are traditionally used as an aphrodisiac and a mild relaxant. Good human studies are almost absent; most evidence is traditional or from animals.

What it is used for

  • libido – weak evidence, mostly traditional use and combination products
  • mild relaxation and mood – weak evidence

Pairs well with

Often blended with muira puama or horny goat weed.

Do not combine / separate

Do not combine with sedatives or larger amounts of alcohol.

May lower blood sugar – be careful if you take diabetes medicines. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, with kidney or liver disease, or when taking medicines, consult your doctor.
