Slippery elm

Also known as: Ulmus rubra, red elm

The inner bark of the North American slippery elm is rich in mucilage, which forms a protective gel with water. It is traditionally used to soothe an irritated throat, oesophagus and stomach.

What it is used for

  • soothing an irritated throat and stomach – weak evidence, mostly traditional use
  • irritable bowel complaints (in blends) – weak evidence

Do not combine / separate
