Acacia fibre

Also known as: gum arabic, acacia gum

Acacia fibre is a soluble fibre from acacia tree sap that ferments slowly in the gut and feeds beneficial bacteria. Thanks to slow fermentation it causes less wind than many other prebiotics.

What it is used for

  • regular bowel movements and prebiotic effect – weak to moderate evidence
  • good tolerance in a sensitive gut – weak evidence
  • satiety – weak evidence

Forms and how they differ

powder

tasteless, dissolves well in water and food

organic powder

same substance, different farming

When to take it

With a meal or in a drink; start low and increase gradually.

Pairs well with

Plenty of water; probiotics; a diet with varied fibre.

Do not combine / separate

Keep at least a 2-hour gap from medicines, as fibre can slow their absorption.

Safety

Usually very well tolerated. Do not exceed the label dose.
