L-valine

Also known as: valine

Valine is one of the three branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) with leucine and isoleucine. Muscles can use it as fuel during prolonged exercise.

What it is used for

  • Muscle growth or performance taken alone – no reliable evidence
  • Less fatigue during long exercise (as part of BCAAs) – weak evidence

Forms and how they differ

L-valine powder

bitterish, mainly used to adjust ratios in blends

When to take it

During or after longer training.

Pairs well with

Leucine, isoleucine, EAAs.

Do not combine / separate

Valine alone makes no sense as a protein substitute.

Watch out for

Not suitable with maple syrup urine disease. Caution with kidney or liver disease. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have kidney or liver disease or take any medicines.

Safety

Do not exceed the label dose.

Practical tip

If you already take EAAs or enough protein, you do not need extra valine.
