A varied diet; separate vitamin D or omega-3 if needed, as multivitamins usually contain little of them.
Do not stack with other supplements containing the same nutrients (vitamin A, D, iron, zinc, iodine) to avoid exceeding upper limits. Keep at least 4 hours from thyroid medication and some antibiotics.
Pregnant women should use only pregnancy-specific products (without high vitamin A). Smokers should avoid high-dose beta-carotene. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have kidney or liver disease or take any medicines.
Do not exceed the label dose. When combining supplements, add up each nutrient and compare it with the EFSA upper levels.
Check the amounts of vitamin D, B12, iodine and selenium, and avoid products where most of the formula is extracts in token amounts.
