Phosphatidylserine

Also known as: PS

Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid and an important part of cell membranes, especially in the brain. Supplements are now made from soy or sunflower and are used for memory and coping with stress.

What it is used for

  • memory and thinking in older adults – weak evidence; older studies used bovine-brain PS, newer results are more modest
  • blunting the stress response (cortisol) – weak evidence from small studies
  • focus – weak evidence

sunflower PS
