Oyster mushroom

Also known as: Pleurotus ostreatus

Oyster mushroom is a common edible mushroom rich in beta-glucans (pleuran), fibre and ergothioneine. It also naturally contains small amounts of lovastatin, so it is studied for effects on cholesterol.

What it is used for

  • immune support and fewer respiratory infections – weak to moderate evidence from smaller studies with pleuran extract
  • cholesterol support – weak evidence
  • antioxidant effect – weak evidence
