Testosterone booster (complex)

Also known as: T-booster, testosterone support

Testosterone boosters are blends of minerals and plant extracts, typically zinc, magnesium, vitamin D, D-aspartic acid, tribulus, fenugreek, ashwagandha or tongkat ali. Raised testosterone is convincing mainly when zinc or vitamin D is deficient; the blend's quality depends on the label.

What it is used for

  • normal testosterone levels with adequate zinc (EFSA-approved claim for zinc) – strong evidence for zinc, not for the blend
  • libido (fenugreek, ashwagandha) – weak to moderate evidence
  • raising testosterone in healthy men – weak evidence

When to take it

With food, usually in the morning or as the label says.

Pairs well with

Enough sleep, strength training, a healthy body weight.

Do not combine / separate

Watch for doubling zinc and vitamin D with other supplements. If it contains ashwagandha, take care with thyroid medicines and sedatives.

Watch out for

Not for pregnant or breastfeeding women or adolescents. With prostate conditions, hormone-sensitive conditions, liver or kidney disease, or when taking medicines, consult your doctor. If you suspect low testosterone, get a blood test.

Safety

EFSA sets a zinc upper level of 25 mg per day from all sources; for other ingredients do not exceed the label dose. Athletes: risk of contamination with banned substances.

Practical tip

Before buying, get testosterone, zinc and vitamin D measured – correcting a deficiency does the most.
